Better Birth Stories

The new babies.

I absolutely love this photo from @wildwoodbirth 💗

It brings back such powerful memories for me. Only I had two babies on my chest. ⠀
It felt overpowering to have my little one, my firstborn, the absolute light of my life there meeting her new siblings.⠀

I had missed her so very much for the night I had been in St.Thomas’ and although it had been a positive and happy birth experience, as sometimes happens with twins it had also been full-on and tricky.⠀

And then she arrived, ushered in by Dad and my world felt rather more balanced again.⠀
But something had shifted. Her head felt bigger...as did her hands. She seemed more grown up! And how could this have occurred simply overnight?⠀

Kissing and holding her felt right though, whereas those first kisses and cuddles of the twins felt oddly a little forced. They were so small, especially my son, almost bird-like in comparison.⠀

And then so soon after their birth I felt myself shifting into that gear that all second or third time parents know….that head down, get on, I know this, let’s do this, feeling.⠀

It was a seismic shift in family roles. The pecking order reassembled.⠀
And my heart just grew and grew to accommodate them all.⠀

But that moment. That moment when she came in as the oldest. Her little life changed absolutely.⠀
Well, this photo totally sums it up.
