“My husband and I would highly recommend Melanie's course as part of your preparations leading up to birth. We did the one day, in person class in Wandsworth and left feeling educated and empowered. Not only will you learn great practical skills to help you throughout the birthing process, you will also learn what's happening in your mind, body and environment so you have confidence and feel in control of the process, no matter which way it turns. Birth rarely goes according to plan (and the birth of our baby boy certainly did not!) but we were confident in making decisions throughout the process and I leveraged all of the meditation and breathing techniques to do everything from riding in the car to the hospital, avoiding my fear of needles and blood, and ultimately powering through a very long labour. Thank you Melanie!”

  • Our hypnobirthing classes are held at Physio for all — 40 Webbs Road, Battersea, London SW11 6SF (view on map)

The nearest train station is Clapham Junction and nearest tubes are Clapham Common and Clapham South. Travelling by bus you will need the 319, 37, 35 or G1.

There is plenty of free parking directly outside Physio For All.

  • The answer is that you aren't really only learning on the one day course. Once you have confirmed your spaces you are sent your hypnobirthing recordings. These are hypnotherapeutic MP3s created by a fully qualified and highly experienced hypnotherapist and teacher. This is the very beginning of your learning and starts well in advance of the day itself.

Then following the course you have your 40 page hypnobirthing handbook to read as well as Dr Sara Wickham's highly informative book 'What's Right For Me'.

You are also given the full Online Hypnobirthing Course to use for six months after the group course takes place. In this way you can repeat any parts of the course that you may like as well as use all of the other resources in it such as info packs and the Birth Plan.

We also then link you to AIMS and Birthrights for further reading on top of your suggested reading list.

So why did we create a one-day course? Simply put it is not always possible for a couple to give up more than a day of their time - however worthy it may be. You do not need extra padding but to be taught clearly and concisely by an experienced and qualified teacher how to hypnobirth and how to put this into practice within the current maternity landscape. We do this.

  • As it is important that everyone is fully a part of this class we limit the numbers to a maximum of 6 couples. This way we are not rushing and everyone can ask questions and take time to fully understand what is being taught.

  • You can be accompanied by whomever you choose: father-to-be, mother, sister, friend, doula or you can come solo. Whichever works best for you.

  • Our group hypnobirthing classes are best attended during the second or third trimester of your pregnancy, so anytime from week 13 onwards.

  • As soon as you book I’ll send you a welcome email with your hypnotherapy recordings, so you can begin practicing with them before your class.

You will also be invited to join our private Facebook community, with over 6,000 members that you can chat with for support and encouragement.

  • You will never forget the births of your children so they deserve to be the very best experiences for you. Joyful and positive, the incredible start of your life as a parent. Birth should be natural, normal, joyful and supported in society but so often it is not.

Perhaps you were excited when you discovered you were pregnant, perhaps slightly nervous. Maybe after a while you found yourself to be anxious or fearful.

Hypnobirthing offers you ways to reduce fear and anxiety. You learn skills and drills that you can use not only through your labour and birth but for the rest of your life.

You see the evidence and with evidence you are able to make informed choices that work for both you and your birth partner.

The perfect birth differs from person to person but learning hypnobirthing allows you to work toward the perfect birth for you. It is an excellent antenatal learning and you can use it to stack the odds in your favour of achieving your very own better birth story.

Read more about what hypnobirthing is and what it offers you.

  • Understanding Birth It’s Many Influences

We work through what hypnosis actually is and how we use it in hypnobirthing. What it means to be a mammal giving birth and how to work with this. We get a full understanding of our Nervous System and how this comes into play in labour and the ability to step off the fear, tension, pain ride.

    Learning The Skills

Learn how the mind affects the body and how external influences affect the mind. You then are given a full buffet of skills: The Basic Breath, Self-Hypnosis into the wonderful Pink Balloon imagery, visualisations for labour, affirmations and how to create some personal to you.

Skills such as Counting Down for Calm, massage including Calming Touch, Shaking The Apples Counter Pressure for discomfort in the back and how to become the very best birth partner, which includes a special hypnosis script that the birth partner can read to the mum to be.

Giving Birth and The Birth Environment

We work through giving birth from good positions for the birthing mother to Optimal Foetal Positioning for baby. We discuss the perineum, the pelvic floor, birth place options and how to recognise the onset of labour. Comfort measures you may like to consider and also understand the Golden Hour after birth and optimal cord clamping as well as what happens when you birth your placenta. We also examine ways to avoid unnecessary distractions.

    When Things Aren’t So Straight-Forward

Here we get under the hood of due dates and post-term birth. We work through methods of induction of labour, medical assistance to birth from ventouse through to C-Section and the importance of using your newly learnt hypnobirthing skills and why it is a good idea to have birth plans from A-Z. We also run through the skills to make great decisions either in advance or during labour.

    Post Birth

For this chapter we discuss how we ‘feel’ post birth, from the Baby Blues through to Post Natal Depression and who to go to for help should you need it on a range of subjects.

  • The fee will be repaid promptly and in full in the very unlikely event of the course being cancelled.

For cancellations four weeks or more before your training date, we will refund 50% of the fee.

For cancellations less than fourteen days before your training date, the full fee will be due.

We charge a cancellation fee because our training courses are often full, meaning interested persons have to be asked to book at a later date. With late cancellations these empty places cannot then be filled.

Laura Tilson BA (Hons) M.Ost DPO | Osteopath

“I love hypnobirthing both as a mother and also as an Osteopath, because it breaks down the anatomy and physiology of birth in a meaningful and practical way. Understanding birth and what happens to your body can feel empowering and can help you understand and process how your birth plays out in the end. I recommend Melanie because she is so passionate about what she does and can offer a personalised service with her hypnotherapy and EFT training if you need any further support before or after birth.”
