Birth preparation isn’t just for mum folks!
As you may know, I am a huge advocate for preparing for birth in two ways.
Firstly, know your stuff.
Understand about your rights in birth.
The path that labour and birth can and may take.
The bumps in the road such as labour slowing down or baby not coping with labour so well.
The real evidence surrounding Induction of Labour and augmentation of labour.
What exactly a c-section will look and feel like.
Secondly, learn your birthing & coping skills.
How to focus during labour.
Breathing techniques.
Confidence for birth and navigating problems.
Power and belief in your own innate ability to birth your baby and your baby’s ability to be born.
But there is generally more than just one person at a birth.
Yes, you, the wonderful Birth Partner.
Many people I meet who are hoping to attend a birth have some worries or issues surrounding what that birth will look like. If you have a problem with blood or needles or hospitals then you need to prepare appropriately.
A fear or a phobia about anything relating to birth, blood or hospitals can be overcome with some work. I have assisted many dads-to-be who have passed out or been sick in the past when having a blood test or seeing someone else have a blood test.
If this is you, please do not attempt to wing-it for your birthing partner.
Collapsing during the birth is of little help to either mum or the midwives!
So, what can you do?
Well, if you are in London, UK, you can come to see me in clinic. I am an experienced hypnotherapist and EFT Tapping practitioner and my rather unusual skills toolbox has helped countless birth partners to stay in the room and still support their birthing women.
If you are anywhere else in the country or globally then locate an experienced hypnotherapist or EFT Tapping practitioner to work with. If they have antenatal skills then all the better.
You really can get over these fears. This wonderful photo above does not need to be you.
